Song title: Though The Nations Gather (Psalm 2)
Music: Greg de Blieck
Lyrics: Greg de Blieck
CCLI no: 7127395

Though the nations gather in their rage
All the plans they make are vain
Though they seek to claim his rightful throne
And usurp his Anointed’s reign

Let the kings of earth all stand ashamed
Let the lawless foe be still
For the mighty God installs his king
On Zion’s holy hill

On Zion’s holy hill
On Zion’s holy hill
For the mighty God installs his king
On Zion’s holy hill

Though the rebel’s wrath inflames the lands
Let the trembling soul recall
The Lord shall laugh, whose kingdom stands
So far above them all

Give ear, O kings – would you be free?
Then let this counsel stand.
Your power derives from Christ’s decree
So kiss his gracious hand

Rejoice, you servants of the King
For who can match his power?
And trust your fragile lives to him
To save us in that hour

To save us in that hour
To save us in that hour
And trust your fragile lives to him
To save us in that hour

We can, as Christians, feel uncomfortable with language that seems triumphalistic.  But the bible is clear that those who set themselves against God will one day have to contend with the King He chooses. Christians around the world face persecution from those who rage against their maker, and that rage manifests itself in many ways. This is our battle – we must not be indifferent. We must be prepared to warn God’s enemies of this tremendous folly.

God has extended His grace to us. We were once rebels, but He has revealed His goodness, shown us the beauty of Christ, and the depths of His love and sacrifice. We must remember His power, too, and the fact that Christ has promised to return as the conqueror, when He will judge the nations. Let us have no fear of His enemies, many though they be. Let us rejoice, and trust our gracious king.
