Wake up my soul and bless your God
Turn every sense to praise
And sweetly speak His holy name
And sweetly speak His holy name
And sweetly speak His holy name
Who blesses all your ways
The lord forgives your every debt
Let sickness hold no fear
His hand redeems you from the pit
His hand redeems you from the pit
His hand redeems you from the pit
And brings his goodness near
Let thoughts of worry and distress
Slip from your troubled brow
A crown of love and tenderness
A crown of love and tenderness
A crown of love and tenderness
From God adorns it now
To Moses and to Israel
He showed his righteousness
His justice shall be shown as well
His justice shall be shown as well
His justice shall be shown as well
To all who are oppressed
His love transcends the clouds, the air
The stars and spheres above
Let fragile frames forget their care
Let fragile frames forget their care
Let fragile frames forget their care
And marvel at his love
The hosts of heaven praise his name
Great servants of his word
On earth, let thankful souls proclaim
On earth, let thankful souls proclaim
On earth, let thankful souls proclaim
The glories of the Lord
Faithfulness, Forgiveness, Healing, Justice, Praise, Thankfulness

I often wake up to the news on my clock radio, which is not always uplifting – news readers, with their selective concerns of the day, don’t mention those truths that are greater and more profound, and upon which hang all the other circumstances of our lives. God exists…He has forgiven us, and His mercies are new every morning My soul is often asleep too, and needs to be lifted from slumber to remember the beautiful news – that God exists, that He has forgiven us, and His mercies are new every morning. The full reality of God is always greater than even our dreams can conceive. This psalm recounts God’s faithfulness to those whom He has called to be His children. He meets our needs – forgiveness for our sins, that means we shall escape condemnation, and we have a hope for the future; healing, that we need not fear the power of sickness over our mortal bodies, because even from the pit of death He will ultimately rescue us. We need not worry that His grace depends on our own capabilities, because, as He has shown throughout the bible’s history, our hope hangs on His great faithfulness, and not our own. We intentionally put this song first on our album – hopefully the gentle introduction to the song will be useful to those waking up (physically or spiritually!) as a sweet reminder of the goodness of our great God.
